Below you can find a selection of the lenses most frequently used by panoramic photographers and 360° virtual tour creators. More lenses are available in our panoramic lens database.

Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye

Nikon 10.5mm FisheyeField of view (FOV) - horizontal, vertical, diagonal:

  • Full-frame=10.5mm, HFOV: n/a° | VFOV: n/a° | DFOV: n/a°
  • 1.5x=15.75mm, HFOV: 139° | VFOV: 87° | DFOV: 173°

Number of pictures required for a 360° panorama:

  • Minimum (full-frame): N, 3 images every 120°, if the lens shade is cut off (no zenith shot is required)
  • Recommended (full-frame): use the Nikon 16mm fisheye or the Sigma 15mm (6+2)
  • Minimum (1.5x): N, 5 images every 72° at 0° pitch (18% overlap), Z
  • Recommended (1.5x): N, 6 images every 60° at 0° pitch (32% overlap), Z

Nikon 16mm f/2.8D Fisheye

  • Full-frame=16mm, HFOV: 137° | VFOV: 88° | DFOV: 170°

  • Minimum (full-frame): N, 5 images every 72° at 0° pitch, Z (18% overlap)
  • Recommended (full-frame): N, 6 images every 60° at 0° pitch, Z (32% overlap)
  • Minimum (1.5x): N, 8 images every 45° at -30° pitch, 8 images every 45° at +30° pitch, Z

Canon EF 8-15mm f/4 L USM fisheye zoom

Canon 8-15mm fisheye zoomThis is the first Canon fisheye zoom lens.

Field of view (FOV):

  • Full-frame @ 8mm, HFOV = VFOV = DFOV: 180° - circular image

Number of pictures required for a 360° panorama:

  • Minimum (full-frame): N, 3 images every 120° at 0° pitch (+10° recommended)
  • Minimum (1.3x,1.6x): N, 3 images every 120° using Agnos MrotatorC
  • Standard (1.3x,1.6x): N, 4 images every 90° at +10° pitch, no zenith image required
  • Recommended (1.6x): N, 5 images every 72° at +10° pitch, no zenith image required

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5

Canon EF-S 10-22mmField of view (FOV) - horizontal, vertical, diagonal:

  • 1.6x = 16-35mm, HFOV: 97° - 54° | VFOV: 74° - 38° | DFOV: 107° - 63°
  • EF-S lens - not compatible with full-frame Canon cameras

Number of pictures required for a 360° panorama:

  • Minimum: N, 6 images every 60° at -30° pitch, 6 images every 60° at +30°, Z
  • Recommended: N, 4 images every 90° at -60° pitch, 8 images every 45° at 0° pitch, 4 images every 90° at +60° pitch, no zenith image required
  • Alternative: N, 8 images every 45° at -30° pitch, 8 images every 45° at +30° pitch, Z

Sigma 8mm f/4 EX DG Circular Fisheye

Sigma 8mm FisheyeField of view (FOV):

  • This fisheye lens can produce circular images with an angle of view of 180° when attached to a full-frame digital or 35mm film SLR camera.

Number of pictures required for a 360° panorama:

  • Minimum (full-frame): N, 3 images every 120° at 0° pitch
  • Minimum (1.3x, 1.5x, 1.6x): N, 3 images every 120° using Agnos MrotatorC
